Bad Days – Keepin’ It Real

So, if you made it to this post through Facebook, you did so via a really cute picture of my puppy, Tritip.

There’s a reason for that… the content ahead can and will be used in a court of law for my insanity trial, coming soon to a courthouse near you. No, seriously, there are graphic pictures to follow and it’s dinner time when I’m posting this, so I wanted you to be able to opt out if you so choose. So, if you’re that grossed out person, close the browser now.

I mean it.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Here’s the deal. I’ve had a cranky last couple of days. Just various, insignificant things that have been bothering me. In the grand scheme of things, they’re small. I know kids are starving in Africa, people are underwater in Houston, and even in my home state of California, people are in real danger of their homes burning.

The last few days Jenny has been working through her anger issues while Mike and I have been at work on anything she can get her teeth on. Seriously anything. Cardboard boxes, my flip flops, my cowboy boots, a ball point pen, a dish brush, Yahtzee, Cards Against Humanity, and even one of the sofa cushions.

Today, however, was just the icing on the cake… the coup de grâce. We left Jenny and Brady outside in the kennel (ha! take that!) and Tippy in the bathroom. He had a bit of an upset tummy last night, so I wasn’t expecting to come home to nothing. As I peeked into the bathroom, I was met with a bright-eyed, wiggly puppy. So far so good.

Then I saw he had made use of his potty pads and, for the most part, had made it onto said potty pads. I thoroughly praised him and took him outside so that I could come back in and clean up.

That’s when I noticed it. The art.

Yes, my bright-eyed wiggly puppy decided that just shitting everywhere wasn’t enough. He needed to finger paint. And why not? That’s what everyone does when they have a nice little place to nap, a thousand toys, and some water… they choose to smear their own feces all over the counters, cabinets, door, walls, and floor!!!

After I got done cleaning, I sat down to reflect… and that’s when I began to laugh. There are most definitely worse things that could happen… now I need to go downstairs and see why it just got quiet…

Meet The Puppies – Rebel

Last, but certainly not least, was our bonus puppy. We were told by the vet that there were six, maybe seven puppies. After Toby, there was almost an hour before little Rebel was born. We were beginning to think that six would be it when this adorable little guy made his entrance at 1:15pm! He’ll be going home to Tim, Nicki, and Skyler as well – and get to spend his life with big brother Blitz! His name was pretty special too – Sky was just in a dance recital and got a little rebellious with a move she wasn’t supposed to do… the name was born!

Meet The Puppies – Toby

Our sixth born is named Toby. He was born at 12:25pm and will be going home with my friend from high school, Sharon. She, her hubby, and her two boys are so excited! It was amazing to reconnect in person after all these years (we’ve stayed in touch via Facebook). They came out to the ranch, met Toby and fell in love!

Meet The Puppies – Zeva

Just when I thought we were going to have all boys, out came our one and only girl! Meet miss Zeva, born at 11:41am. She’ll be going home with our good friends Jim and Ashley! She is quite the little snuggle bug but will not hesitate to elbow her brothers out of the way to get some food!

Here she is on her birthday:

Meet The Puppies – Name TBD

Ok, so not everyone has a name right away. And that’s cool too! This sweet little boy was born third at 11:17am and will be going home to my sister and her family. He is super mellow, but always in the thick of things! He has stunning blue eyes, for right now at least! I’m hoping he keeps them – they go really well with his chocolate color!

Meet The Puppies – Achilles

I love learning more about what goes into the names people choose for their puppies. Some, like me, just have something pop into their head. Others think long and hard. My new friends John and Sylvia will be taking little Achilles home – he was puppy number two, born at 11:06am. The love Greek mythology, so thus the name.

Quick backstory: the day after we rescued Jenny, we put her out in the yard with Brady for about 1/2 an hour. She freaked out, dug out of the fenced area, and ran away. Like really far away. Enter John. He found her on the side of the road (she had a collar on but no tags yet) and took her in.

I, meanwhile, was losing my mind. We’d only had her for a day, but we were already in love with her. I posted on a local Facebook group that she was missing and John sent me a message. Jenny spent the night with him and his girlfriend (Sylvia) and they too, fell in love with her. I’m so happy they brought her back and promised them a puppy. They chose this little brute:

He’s the biggest of the group and is a sweet little thing! Here he is at three weeks:

Meet The Puppies – Tritip

I know that I’m WAY overdue on this – life has been a bit crazy these last three weeks! Yes, the puppies are three weeks old today! I’m excited to announce that all of the puppies now have homes! I’ll introduce them in their birth order, because if you know me, you know that I have their birth order and times written down!

First up is Tritip. He’s going to be staying here with us. Seriously, how could we have puppies and not keep one?! He was born at 10:51am.

I fell in love with this little guy the moment he was born! Actually, DURING his birth… poor Mama Jenny had no idea what was going on. Little T was halfway out and she sat on him! He’s a spunky little thing that loves to lay on his back (even when he’s eating) and to play with all of his brothers and sister!

Meet Brady!

My husband is learning faster and faster that I’ve got a big soft spot when it comes to animals. Our count is now two dogs, two cats, nine chickens, two parakeets, one horse, and a handful of fish.

Through a series of fortuitous (for me, at least) circumstances, Brady came into our lives. He most definitely chose me… basically hopped into my car at the barn and never looked back. He’s amazing… loves to romp around, but completely submissive to Shadow (who is very much the alpha of our house). He is four years old, is great with just about any dog, kids, and even small animals. He likes to chase the chickens and the cats (he’s treed Felix twice and chased Mask up the banister), but doesn’t hurt them. He is well mannered (need to work on that recall!), loves to swim, and is pretty good with the horses at the barn. Ok, maybe not pretty good… he’s very trusting and walks where he shouldn’t… the pony stepped on him the other day and he almost got kicked by a pissed off mare, but he’ll learn. He also got himself skunked the other day… once again, need to work on the recall.

He’s a really good traveler too… he goes with me to the barn and went out to a couple different ranches the other day as we helped clean up after and take care of some of the evacuated horses. If the fires clear up and we’re able, he’ll head out with me to the cabin this weekend for the 2015 Cowgirl Posse trip. I love having a pup that can go everywhere with me!

Meet Brady!
Meet Brady!

Shadow is still getting settled with having a “little” brother (Brady outweighs him by 10 pounds). For the most part, they get along really well… Shadow has been an only dog for 10 years now and this integration has gone way better than I thought it would. They even unite to bark at the UPS guy:

I’m so happy to be a two dog family now! Life is good!
